Our winter project took place in the town of Smolevichy, 40 km away from Minsk. There live 80 thousand people. In 2001 a young missionary family began their ministry here. They occupy one room in the house of prayer. The building itself is an old one, it badly needs repair. The doors and the floors are in an awful state Heating of the building is a big problem . It took us at least 5 hours a day, so brothers took turns in it. The missionaries Vera and Alexey are very concerned about the state of the House of prayer.
In spite of all problems we worked every day for the glory of God. We visited many people in their homes. People treated us differently, some of them opened not only their doors but their hearts too. They asked us questions about God, heavens. We realized that people that considered themselves Russian Orthodox believers were very ignorant, they didn't know the Bible, they were full of prejudices.
We invited a group of young people to watch Christian films with us, so our house was always full in the evenings in spite of the cold. These young people asked a lot of questions, they showed big interest, we pray they will continue to grow spiritually.
Vera and Alexey made friends with a lot of people and now they use their connections to reach people in some places. We were able to visit the town's polyclinics and to speak to pregnant women, we told them how valuable life is in the eyes of God and that abortion isn't an operation but a murder. Some teachers also permitted us to visit their school. We could speak to the pupils about God and His love, about His son Jesus.
We organized a Christmas party at school, where many teachers and pupils were present. We took addresses of the needy old people at the department of the social welfare and began to visit them. It was a great surprise for lonely old people when we visited them, gave Christmas presents, offered our help. We did shopping for some of them, brought water or wood to others. We cleaned their houses, brought necessary medicine from the drugstore, we cleaned away snow. Surely we never missed an opportunity to speak about God and His love. We told them about our faith, about Christ and salvation. During our conversations we managed to encourage them to pray, to rely on God.
We were very glad to share the Gospel with a lot of people. Now we pray about them all and about young missionaries Vera and Alexey and the finances for the repair of the House of prayer.
